First Year Cleveland's Action Team 1 Report:
Addressing Bias Within Health Care Systems

African American babies in Greater Cleveland die four times more often than white infants. First Year Cleveland's Action Team 1 was formed in 2018 to help answer the question of "why?" with the overarching goal of reducing racial inequities by developing system-wide solutions. Studies have indicated clinical and non-clinical medical staff racial biases against people of color have a negative (and sometimes fatal) impact on maternal and child health. Individuals operating within a context of racial bias may be aware or unaware of the effects that social structures have on their behavior interactions.
Hospital leaders, clinicians, and staff from Cleveland's three major healthcare systems are leading initiatives to better understand and address racial inequities experienced by Black, Latina, and White women identified by Action Team 1. This webinar reveals the findings of Action Team 1 and related action plans to address bias across health systems.
