BHP Holds Board Strategic Retreat at The Foundry Community Rowing and Sailing Center
Better Health Partnership’s Board of Directors gathered on June 17 for our Annual Strategic Retreat, hosted at The Foundry Community Rowing and Sailing Center — a remarkable community space dedicated to expanding access to rowing, sailing, and youth development opportunities along the Cuyahoga River in the Flats of Cleveland. The Foundry’s mission to empower young people through connection to Cleveland’s waterfront deeply resonates with our own commitment to advancing health and opportunity across the region.
“Meeting at The Foundry was a meaningful reminder that health is shaped not only in clinical settings, but also in community spaces where people build confidence, connection, physical well-being, and opportunity," said Robert Eick, MD, MPH, President & CEO of Better Health Partnership. "The same teamwork and shared purpose visible at The Foundry reflects the kind of collaboration BHP’s mission depends on.”
The Foundry expands access for Cleveland youth to experience the city’s waterways through rowing and sailing. Their programs create safe, inclusive spaces where young people build confidence, belonging, and lifelong skills. With expert coaching and accessible campuses along Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River, the Foundry connects youth, families, and community partners in ways that strengthen development and open doors to new opportunities.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), the Foundry is supported primarily through donations, grants, and program revenue. Individual and organizational contributions make up the largest share of funding, complemented by grants from regional and national foundations. Additional revenue from rowing and sailing programs helps sustain operations and ensures youth can participate without financial barriers.
By opening doors to high‑quality programming and hands‑on experiences, the Foundry helps young people of all backgrounds and experiences grow, connect, and thrive, strengthening the broader community in meaningful ways. We were grateful for the chance to meet in such an inspiring environment and learn more about the Foundry’s work and impact across Greater Cleveland.
