January was a big month for Joseph & Mary’s Home, a Better Health Pathways HUB care coordination agency. The medical respite program, which serves men and women experiencing both homelessness and acute medical needs, opened its new Joseph’s Home facility! It remains in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood, adjacent to the original Joseph’s Home.
Now on one floor, in a fully accessible space, Joseph’s Home can house up to 11 men at a time. It is also conveniently attached to Mary’s Home, a 10-room site with the same mission, focused on women.
The new Joseph’s Home—opened just after the organization celebrated 25 years in 2025—was made possible by the more than $3 million “A New Home for Healing” capital campaign. At the new location, residents can rest, recover, and be renewed better than before as they prepare to move into permanent, stable housing.
All residents are provided with a private room and three meals a day. Along with being a secure, quiet and comfortable place to recuperate, residents at Joseph’s Home have access to a full-time nurse, case manager, community health worker, peer recovery supporter, and resident support associates.
Staff are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. With this supportive team in place, residents learn how to regain emotional and physical strength, plus their sense of hope; manage their diagnoses; make their own appointments; acquire necessary documents; apply for eligible aid and benefits; and find housing, all while acquiring coping skills that will help prepare them for the next chapter.
“I often thought of the word ‘abundance’ while I lived there,” said one former resident. “There is always an abundance of food, toiletries, and clothing. I felt an abundance of love, kindness and respect from everyone.”
“Joseph & Mary’s Home woke me up; it helped me look at life realistically. I have changed,” said another resident alumnus.
With the support of the Better Health Pathways HUB, Joseph & Mary’s Home looks forward to offering a nurturing, caring environment to other neighbors who need a place to heal and achieve independence.
