Lead Safe Screening & Testing Program Overview

This initiative is part of the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition’s (LSCC) commitment to improving early childhood health outcomes through increased lead screening and testing. Aligned with the LSCC Screening & Testing goals, the project focuses on identifying and addressing lead exposure in Cleveland’s youngest and most vulnerable residents.

Program Timeline:
February 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026

Priority Population:
Children under 2 years of age living in the City of Cleveland.

Program Goal:
To increase the percentage of children with a well-child visit who receive at least one lead screening test by their second birthday from 69% to 79% by June 30, 2026.

Childhood Lead Prevention Toolkit:

We encourage participating health systems to use the Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) Childhood Lead Prevention Toolkit to develop rapid Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles to test interventions designed to increase lead testing rates and improve follow-up.
