Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition

The Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition is an inclusive public-private partnership founded in 2019 to address lead poisoning through a comprehensive, preventive, and long-term approach. Since children still live in homes built before 1978, when lead-based paint was outlawed, children are still being exposed to lead from deteriorating lead-based paint and resulting dust and soil contamination. This ultimately also leads to lower IQs, a decreased ability to pay attention, and thus underperformance in school. Upon request for assistance from Cuyahoga County's Invest in Children, Better Health Partnership joined the coalition's efforts to help mobilize clinical practices to improve lead screening rates and referrals to resources for children who test positive.
